Starting up a PLC


Starting up Your PLC

You need to start up your PLC from very early.  Remember what makes a PLC. Here are some big ideas.

  1. Identify individuals for your prospective team. Have a first meeting and develop a vision and time for meeting.

  2. You may need to teach individuals how to work together successfully (collaborate with collegiality).

  3. Remember to create and promote an atmosphere of trust. Don't be petty and postcolonial nor gossipy and trivial. Avoid Defensive climates.

  4. Find the time-if people are motivated they will give time.

  5. Sure include your friends, but broad and inclusive works everytime.

  6. Include parents, other stakeholders, and students for broadened participation


Questions to ask in a school improvement PLC

  1. How do we improve our school?

  2. How do we improve student learning in our department?

  3. How do we improve the pastoral care provision?

  4. How do we improve communication in our school (ASJA, San Fernando only)
